Colour Chart
The Primary colours are Red, Yellow & Blue. The Secondary colours are made by mixing two primary colours ie.
Red + Yellow = Orange
Yellow + Blue = Green
Blue + Red = Purple.
Art Terms
- Warm colours: Warm colours, which contain element yellow and red, come towards you or feel closer to you.
- Cool colours: Cool colours, which contain element blue and green, go away from you and recede.
- Harmonise: Colours adjacent each other on the colour wheel.
- Complementary: Colours opposite each other on the colour wheel which ‘go together’. When put beside each other the colours contrast each other. When mixed together they produce a neutral or grey colour.
- Hues: The type of colour eg. red, yellow, green, blue.
Contrast - Different colour types
Constant – Same colour type (eg.blue)
- Tints: A colour which has been made lighter by adding white.

- Shades: A colour which has been made darker by adding black.
