THE MAKING OF AN “UNORDINARY” RALLY

Is your Rally ordinary?

  • … same programme each week?
  • …you plan things you are comfortable with?
  • …they love the same games each week so that’s what you play?
  • …it’s a routine for you?
  • …same folk do same activities?

You still have a good Rally – BUT – how about challenging yourself (and your Leaders) to try for a GREAT Rally!

Here are some of the ingredients we believe make a GREAT Rally. Build on the areas you might be weaker in and watch your Rally take on a new lease of life!

  1. Organisation: Planning & organization is ESSENTIAL. Great Rallies have a Leaders meeting at least once each term? Rally runs smoothly because you know what is happening. You plan ahead, other Leaders know when they are scheduled to take devotions, a badge, run a game etc. Also, you are well prepared each night with all the materials you need to run the programme,  all Leaders know what they are expected to do or provide and you can smoothly progress from one activity to the next without the members having a chance to sit around getting restless.
  2.  Variety: Creativity is the key here. You don’t do the same things every Rally night. You pop a Dress-up, Badge, Movie, Special Theme night into the term as variety to your games and/or crafts. Your ‘special nights’ get them ‘talking about it’. It is different to what you have ever done before. Your Leaders contribute and brainstorm ideas at the Leaders meetings. You are excited with an idea, throw around suggestions that might work, and then you GIVE IT A GO! Look for strengths, abilities, and resources in your church you can tap into.
  3.  Getting to know members: Check your attitude. Each child is special. You make them feel so, and ALL your Leaders take responsibility to contribute to making this happen too. You show them you care by knowing their names and enjoying a personal conversation with them.
  4.  Inspiring Leaders: Great Rallies have Leaders that are a wonderful example and inspiration to others. They show children they care and would rather talk to the members and parents than just chatting to other leaders. You and your leaders will model Christ to your Rally members, both inside and outside Rally.
  5.  Enthusiasm: …. Will be bubbling out of you – your passion for children/organizing/activities will be clearly seen in your planning, presentation and interaction at rally Your enthusiasm will be infectious and produce an enjoyable experience.
  6.  Challenging: You don’t do ‘the same old same old’. You are prepared to take others ideas on board and give it a go, you plan some special activities that you have never done before, you decide Leaders will take devotions or you will have DVD’s or ask others to speak – whatever is new, different. YOU are challenged – but you want to try it. Willing to step out in faith as it were and be creative. … try a photo shoot; a horse-riding weekend; make a large raft and float down a river on Saturday;….  To be challenged you often step outside your comfort zone. And it is exciting!
  7.  Prayerful: You will pray regularly for each other, and especially for your members. You realize your need for God to be leading you and that it is His work you are doing.
  8.  Commitment: IT IS HARD WORK! An ‘unordinary’ Rally is where the Leaders make sacrifices of time, energy & often finances, to do their best each Rally night.

Be encouraged by what you do well, but don’t settle for being an ‘ordinary’ Rally – aim for the ‘unordinary’.
