Bombs

Lay out a grid with rope or masking tape. Each team member steps into 1 square at a time, starting at the first row and making their way out the 4th row. At each choice of square, the leader says ‘OK’ or ‘BOMB’ and if it’s OK, they proceed to the next choice of square. If it’s BOMB, the next member takes a turn trying to get further than the last contestant. Leader makes out a set of grid patterns (about 5) and uses a different one each time. Each grid has to be successfully negotiated before the next set is used. Points are given each time the grid is negotiated successfully.
See below for sample pattern. X = bomb. Try to step in clear squares.

Slave ropes

You need a long length of rope and a number of thin pieces of tyre tube ‘rounds’ or similar. The ends of the rope tie together. Attach pairs or rubber tube to the rope at intervals. To play: 1 member stands inside the rope. Teams form up behind, each with their feet in a pair of rubber tubes. Front member holds the rope at waist and leads team round a marker or obstacle course. Points given for each time the course is completed.

Grab the loot

Equipment: spoon, ping-pong or golf balls or stones, bungy cord or rubber strips tied together to form a long stretchy rope. Tie the cord to a goal post, tree or other firm anchor. Have a loop in the end for person to hold on to. Place the ‘loot’ (balls, stones) on the ground at a distance the cord will stretch to. One at a time, grab cord and run out with spoon to pick up a ball. Take back to leader, and next person has a turn. Points are given for each piece of ‘loot’ recovered. Replace balls when all are collected.

Walk the plank

Set 2 or 3 planks on short logs or bricks. Each team member walks the planks, holding their ankles. One has to finish before the other begins.

Cargo crawl

Place an open weave net on ground and peg firmly in 4 corners and partway along sides.1 at a time, crawl through. Grab hacky sack/ball from bucket at the end and run it back to beginning. Next person goes. Either have many objects to collect or 1 team member collects and the next takes it back. Point for ach time someone completes the turn.

Shoot the cannon

Equipment: petanque set, different coloured card circles. Best played in a sand-pit. Lay out cards in rows of different colours. Team lines up behind the edge of pit. One at a time a person throws 2 balls each. Then the next throws, till all balls have been used. Gather balls and take to team again, and continue playing.
Score: if ball lands on,, or rolls onto a card give points. Have colours worth different amounts. One leader needs to score while the other supervises and replaces balls when used.
Note: Don’t let anyone walk in front of throwers – petanque balls are heavy!
