- Rapha Ministries was developed out of the need in the community of Papakura in South Auckland of a resource to attend to individuals who, because of many varying reasons, have lives that are dysfunctional, but who have the will to receive help to confront and deal with those soul-destroying issues.
It was the vision of Pastor Owen Frethey and his wife Raewyn, who, as ministers at the Red Hill Community Church in Papakura, were constantly being frustrated at the lack of an appropriate facility to deal with the issues they were confronting on a daily basis.
VISION – To provide a safe environment where broken people can come for and receive healing through the redeeming power and love of Jesus.
MISSION STATEMENT – To enable and equip people on their journey of recovery to be made whole, effective, fully functioning members of their family and community through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
[Luke 4:18-19 (NLT) “The Spirit of the Lord is upon us, for He has anointed us to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent us to proclaim that liberty to the captives, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free…”]
HOW - This will be provided by way of short to medium term accommodation and/or day attendance with an appropriate and ongoing schedule of discipline, teaching and practice to bring about change .

- We are committed to help those who have undertaken a recovery program but need on-going support.
- Broken and hurting people in general (who’s not?)
- Genuine short-term emergency accommodation.
Recent examples. ‘Dianne’ was on a waiting list to get into a drug/alcohol rehab but had 4 weeks to wait. It was far better to remove her from the sordid environment and lifestyle she was in and have her in a place that could begin to lay a few foundations before rehab began. A family took her in for that time but that is not possible for long-term solutions. A month or tow later she struggled in the rehab and walked out and was able to return to the same home until such time as the rehab would admit her again. There have been others in a similar position to ‘Dianne’.
At the other end of a rehab stint, we had ‘Jim’ who had no place to go and ended up in a caravan park, into the very discouraging environment that wasn’t conducive for further discipling. We have now lost contact with ‘Jim’!
Three children from one family were in trouble with the police and needed somewhere for a night before going back home. Another family accommodated them at 1.30 in the morning!
